Status Report 2012:  REGIONAL SUMMARY

What is the Regional Summary?

• The plantkon status report has an introduction chapter, a methods chapter, multiple "regional chapters" (e.g., "The Baltic Seas", "The Mediterannean", "The western North Atlantic", ... ,...), and then a closing "trans-Atlantic/trans-basin chapter".

• Each regional chapter starts with an introduction and overview summary for that region, followed by the multiple individual site summaries that fall within that region.  All of the site authors with data in that region are invited to contribute to the regional summary.

The regional summary concept is a new and expanding portion of the report as new data and analyses are developed.  Within the WGZE zooplankton reports, the regional summaries did not even exist two reports ago, and in the last report they were primarily a text-based overview of results from the site summaries and current literature.   For thiis report, WGPME (and WGZE) now have multi-site comparison tools and figures that can be used to expand this plot.    For example, we can plot nutrients or "total diatoms" data from all sites on a single access.   This kind of plot may show that all values are increasing or decreasing or perhaps doing both based on latitude or east/west location.
